The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language (also known as The Message) is a version of the Bible by Eugene H. Peterson, published in segments from 1993 to 2009. It falls on the extreme dynamic end of the dynamic and formal equivalence spectrum.
This project was a milestone for Peterson, who had been a professor of New Testament studies for more than 35 years. With The Message, he hoped to reach a broader audience. As he states in the introduction, the project has always been about reaching out to the people, so the language used in this Bible does not reflect academic niceties.
